For the last decade, the sports fans in West Central Illinois and Northeast Missouri have been treated to some wonderful highs from our high school and college athletes.
The area has celebrated numerous team and individual state championships.
There have been plenty of thrilling games and memories that will last a lifetime.
With that in mind, we want to know who you would pick to form an all-decade team from your favorite school or sport. Here's your chance to definite who was the best of the best during the first decade of the 21st century.
We've given you a list of 19 different teams to vote on for this project.
The Herald-Whig's sports staff came up with the following nominees for each category. One thing to keep in mind, players must have played the majority of their careers during the decade of the 2000s.
We will reveal our five-person teams in the Herald-Whig over the next 10 weekends, taking a break the weekend of December 6-7 to announce our volleyball and football all-area teams. The fans will also have their say. We'll reveal "The People's Choice" pick each week in the Herald-Whig.
Vote early, vote often for your favorites. Each vote costs 25 cents with the proceeds going to the Herald-Whig's Newspapers In Education program. Voting starts Sunday, October 18 at 7a and continues through 4p on the Thursday prior to the team announcements in the Quincy Herald-Whig.
